Elias Voit Faces a New Battle in Season 3 of Criminal Minds: Evolution!

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 may be in the early stages of production, but we already have some casting news! While it doesn’t involve any of the main cast members, it may pertain to someone who has definitely left a mark on the BAU through the course of the past couple of seasons.

Actress Aimee Garcia, who many may recognize from the television series Lucifer, will be joining the Paramount+ series in the role of Dr. Julia Ochoa for a multi-episode arc. As reported by Deadline, her occupation as a neuropsychiatrist will lead her to be assigned the case of a “high-profile patient” who needs help after developing trauma to the brain due to an injury.

Considering the events of the end of season 2, it is very likely she will be assigned to help Elias Voit (Zach Gilford). Fans may recall that Voit was brutally beaten after being put in general population at the prison where was beginning his sentence.

Voit had wanted to be put into general population, despite earlier being placed in solitary confinement. As the BAU were close to solving the mystery of Gold Star, they didn’t think much of it. However, in the final scene of season 2, Voit was assaulted while doing laundry.Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 - Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Despite being imprisoned under his birth name, he was somehow discovered. Whether or not he planned this is unknown, but it wouldn’t be surprising. He has made it no secret he wants to be out of prison. A beating would certainly make that prospect even more likely.

This is where Dr. Ochoa comes in, as she will likely be working with him due to his brain injury.

From the looks of it, she will also be clashing with Adam Rodriguez’s Luke Alvez, who has a different approach to dealing with the patient. Whereas Ochoa believes in taking a softer approach, Luke does not see things the same way.

Alvez would certainly be wary when it comes to Voit, not just because of his crimes. He also played mind games with the team and he has managed to always stay one step ahead of him. Since there is a possibility that Voit planned this from the start in order to avoid prison, it would make sense that Alvez would be more aggressive with him than the doctor.

Is there also a chance romance could be afoot for Alez and Ochoa? Even though there is nothing in the description to suggest this, sparks could fly due to the tension between them and their different opinions in caring for the patient.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Erica Messer brought up Voit’s network, reminding viewers that just because Gold Star was over with didn’t mean that his network was no longer in play. This could mean that we will see the BAU once again going after someone connected to Voit’s network.

If so, does this mean that they will be able to prevent Voit from getting the jump on them again? It all depends on how severe his brain trauma is if it is him involved in this arc.
